History Of Golf Knickers

Looking back on the history of Golf Knickers you first see that the popular pants were worn as knee britches that you see in many of the paintings from the 1700′s. The leggings were stretched out a little, and could be seen being worn among the public during the 1800′s.

The plus two’s and plus four’s styles that became popular in 1900′s are what most people consider to be golf knickers. The knickers were popular among baseball teams, and were worn by skiers and bicycle riders, since they do not get caught up in the chain.

Women’s golf knickers and children’s golf knickers were the common pants wore by non men golf players in the early twentieth century, and all of the professional players can be seen with them on in photographs.

Modern Day Golf Knickers

Player’s like Payne Stewart continued on with the tradition of wearing the knickers when they played in tournaments, and almost looked like he had been transplanted from another time. The style has made a small comeback of sorts as golfers like to put on the vintage look to show their support of the traditional look that their ancestors had.

If you travel to St. Andrew’s golf course in Scotland you can still see players wearing the fashion as well as many other courses across Ireland and England.

You can buy a pair of golf knickers in solid or plaid and tartan designs. Their are also ladie’s knickers, and the sizes and colors can be matched to a vest top or sweater depending on what you are looking for.
